ISLAND Magazine
Our debut issue covers the abstract and the engineered, from creative freedoms to political constraints. We champion the brilliant humans who bring hope to our future, those who wrestle the fear out of communities by nurturing sustainable growth and new thought systems. Our editorials are resourceful, led by sensory selections, and poured through a lens that is modern and realistic; to truly reflect the way we build our collections.
Our cover story, Rose Hill, is photographed by Harry Culy (honoured with Marti Friedlander photographic award), who takes an autobiographical photo-road-trip that weaves together people, landscapes, vacant interiors, and still lives of the Hawke’s Bay region.
To champion the archives that exist in our community, we asked Stjohn Milgrew to share his documentary photography from Tāmaki Makaurau’s 90s skate culture in Aotea Square.
ISLAND 01 features Derek Henderson, The New Zealand Dance Company, Emily Karaka, Mara TK, Niamh Peren, Matan Fadida, Soraya LaPread, Anto Yeldezian, Seung Yul Oh and more.
We need your help to continue providing a year-round programme of online reviews, interviews, portfolios, videos and listings that is free for everyone to access. We’d also like to dream bigger with the services we offer to photographers and the visual arts.
We’ve partnered with Press Patron to give readers the opportunity to support PhotoForum Online.
