A photographic time stamp celebrating the life of the iconic Karangahape Rd institution Mercury Plaza. Mercury Plaza was a well loved part of many peoples lives. The community of characters that called Mercury home have been immortalised in print here in the new book by Tim D, a tangible memory in the wake of it’s recent bittersweet end of life due to a major influx of gentrification and public transport construction.

An exhibition for the book release where the books will be for sale and include sculptural objects such as the Mercury Plaza neon sign, artifacts from the plaza, photographs and a video projection piece is set to debut at 4 Cross St. at a new cafe appropriately named The Mercury Plaza in memory of the iconic food court. The exhibition will run from the 20 July − 3rd August with a friends, family & media release night opening on the 19th of July from 5 − 9 pm.

In keeping with the theme of connection and tangibility over mere digital images − “I want to create something for the people who loved the place as much as I did to have forever and for those that appreciate character that cannot be bought with disposable income to enjoy.”
