Billie Culy is one of New Zealand’s emerging young artists, now residing in Hawkes Bay and working from her coastal studio in Haumoana. This is her first solo show in Wellington.
Billie Culy is well known for her captivating Still Life works. From Somewhere Else represents Culy’s steady evolution as an artist, and a challenge to the perception of herself as a photographer. This body of new work exists as a progression of her concept of Still Life, blurring the line between photograph and painting. In keeping with her previous exhibitions, the works are inspired by situations and places, with Culy’s desire to “capture the soul of an area”.
