Oceans to Fly: Whites Aviation brings together a selection of original hand-coloured aerial photographs produced by the Whites Aviation company from the early 1950s. On loan for the exhibition, from private and government collections, these stunning works were originally created to showcase New Zealand landscapes, but have since become icons of New Zealand’s mid-century culture.

The exhibition pays tribute to the role of the Whites Aviation colouring team, a group of women who individually hand painted each iconic photograph. Their contribution to the creation of the images is honoured with film and photographs of the women sitting alongside the colour saturated images they painted.
