New photography gallery opening
Wellington photographer Andy Spain is opening a new photography gallery – the Andy Spain Gallery – at the Garage, 26 Egmont Street where he works as commercial photographer.
The gallery opens to the public from Tuesday 30 October with an exhibition of Andy’s own work, from his project, Love is Understanding. He says of the work: “My project seeks to move away from the photographic representation of New Zealand as a series of idealised landscapes and gain an understanding of its culture through its interior spaces. These spaces are full of the rich cultural diversity of the country with its individual quirks and styles.”
Andy studied for a degree and Masters in Photography in London, followed by 15 years as a photographer, specializing in the area of architecture. He moved from the UK to New Zealand in 2015. Alongside professional work he creates photography for art projects, is putting together a podcast on NZ photographers and teaches photography workshops.
Photographers interested in exhibiting can contact him at andy@asvisual.nz
Gallery hours: Tues – Friday, 10 – 3pm, or by appointment
