Open calls - photographers, curators, writers
Open Calls – photographers, curators & writers
This year, thanks to funding from Creative New Zealand, we’re offering a series of open calls for PhotoForum website content.
1. Curated Online exhibitions
We have two opportunities for curators to put together an online exhibition of Aotearoa/New Zealand photographers’ work, accompanied by a substantial essay. We’re looking for interesting/challenging proposals, which can range from historical to contemporary work or anything in between. Funding $1,000 per exhibition.
2. Online photographic portfolios
Photographers, if you’ve got a well-developed series of work, we want to hear from you for our online portfolio series. We plan to post a series of online exhibitions accompanied by discerning writing or interviews. We’ll match photographers with writers who will help illuminate the work and pay a writer’s fee. Photographers will have input as to who writes about their work. The portfolios should be between 10 – 25 images. Please send us a link to your website or Insta feed, or if you don’t have an online presence, a PDF with sample images.
3. Essays about NZ photography
Writers, we’re looking for substantial essays about Aotearoa/New Zealand photography. We’re open to ideas – opinions, broad topics or the work of a particular person – make us a proposal. We’ll expect the essay to be illustrated with the work you’re writing about. Fee $600.
Deadline & contact
Please send us your ideas and proposals by Sunday 3 March.

We’re really looking forward to hearing from you! Please share this with anyone you think will be interested.
