The second edition of our Land Through a Lens: Images from the Antipodes series is now available to view online. The catalogue presents a suite of 19th and 20th century vintage photography from Australasia and the Pacific. Dating from the 1860s to the 1940s, these rare photographs capture aspects of life and culture as well as unique shots of the Antipodes changing landscape over this period.

Included in the sale are images by James Valentine, Burton Brothers, Herbert Deveril, Josiah Martin, George Valentine and Frank Coxhead among others. One of the photographs featured in the sale documents a highly detailed drawing by Samuel Stuart of Tāmati Wāka Nene (1780s-1871), who was a prominent rangatira of the Ngāpuhi iwi.

The auction begins today and runs until Monday 25 January. Lots will begin closing in groups of 10 every two minutes from 8pm.
