Two Rivers of Ōtautahi

Joe Harrison

Published by Port Hills Publishing

“Two Rivers of Ōtautahi follows New Zealand’s second largest city’s two main rivers from their spring sources, through their urban catchments and finally out to the estuary where they both meet and flow out to sea. Along the way we encounter various people who interact with the Ōtākaro/Avon and Ōpāwaho/Heathcote rivers – from whitebaiters to rowers to a father and son removing trash. Using a combination of street and landscape photography, this book aims to explore the relationships between the people of Ōtautahi/Christchurch and the rivers which run through their city.”
