Sheryl’s second photobook, Cherryblond, is a contemporary work of fiction, based partly on fact. It observes both the personal and intimate narrative of a mature woman, having left a bad marriage, embarking on a 13-year journey of dating in the digital era. Sheryl is represented by a model alongside male friends standing in as prospective boyfriends. Sheryl embraces this change by capturing each encounter and the lessons learned along the way.
Cherryblond is divided into sections with symbolic repeating photographs that depict each different relationship and the deal breakers that ensue. A number of photographic genres shot in bars, cafes, apartments and retail stores illustrate this linear narrative. These personal experiences may resonate with others navigating similar paths, inviting them to reflect on their own dating journeys and choices. The use of text messages and Valentine’s cards blur the lines between photography and graphic novel.
