Energy of Change is a collection of artworks that embraces recent changes in the Kaikōura community, the works are made using a variety of historic and experimental photographic techniques.

Susie Baker has been experimenting in the darkroom for over 20 years, perfecting her own method of mark making, producing vibrant works that depict a feeling of a time and place.

The Kaikōura community has gone through many changes since the 2016 earthquake, changes that have affected the towns landmarks, landscapes and wellbeing; this series of works reflects this flow of energy, producing an inspiring look at Kaikōura’s story of recent change, development and progress that has the town moving forward whilst respecting and learning from the past.

The main body of work consists of large chemically manipulated black and white prints (printed over 700mm square, and developed in shower trays) of various Kaikōura sites.

Also a series depicting the metamorphosis of ‘The Mayfair Kaikōura Community Theatre Inc’ into ‘The Mayfair Arts & Culture Centre – Te Whare Toi ō Kaikōura’.

Other images have been made using the historic Cyanotype process and show immortalises treasured objects found after the uplift, these images are often been coated in an art resin, immortalising the treasured items for future generations.
