The first continuous panoramic (that we know of) of Cuba Street. Transforming 900 metres of buildings into 7.5 metres.

As part of the launch there will be two short presentations from Andy and Wellington Historian Ben Schrader about the inspiration for this work and some of the intriguing history hidden in Wellington’s most vibrant street.

Andy Spain studied photography in London and spent the first part of his career photographing in the UK and Europe. In 2015 he moved to New Zealand and opened his gallery/studio in Wellington in 2018. Andy has specialised in Architectural photography and takes his skills across the country, capturing new and mature architectures. In addition to this Andy also spends his time running workshops in Wellington, hosting his own photography podcast, and putting together personal projects of which ‘Every Building on Cuba Street’ is the latest of.

Ben Schrader is a Wellington historian specialising in urban history and historic preservation. He was Senior Researcher of the award-winning New Zealand Historical Atlas (1997) and has written extensively for Te Ara, the online encyclopedia of New Zealand, for which he co-edited the City and Economy theme. His latest book “The Big Smoke” was awarded the 2017 W. H. Oliver Prize and the 2017 NZ Heritage Non-fiction Book Award; shortlisted for the General Non-fiction category of the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards 2017!
