Remote Abstraction
Remote Abstraction
Patrick Pound
26 June - 20 July 2019
Opening Tuesday, 25 June, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Hot on the heels of his exhibition "Photography and Air" at El Museo Lazaro Galdiano in Madrid, Spain as part of Photo Espana 2019, Melanie Roger Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of selected works by Patrick Pound.
A curated group of largely collage based works using altered found objects form the basis of the exhibition with “before” and “after” scenes directly referencing the mechanisms of a working gallery. These works are a tribute to Kazimer Malevich’s "O,10" exhibition at Marsovo Pole in Petrograd in 1915 and to Russian Suprematism – a geometric abstraction characterised by circles, squares, lines and rectangles which used few colours.
Patrick Pound is New Zealand born artist based in Melbourne, Australia. He has exhibited extensively both within New Zealand and Australia as well as further afield internationally. Recent major museum exhibitions have included "Photography and Air", as part of "Déjà vu?" for Photo Espana, El Museo Lazero Galdiano, Madrid (2019); "Patrick Pound: On Reflection", City Gallery Wellington (2018); "The Point of Everything", Adelaide Biennial of Art, Art Gallery of South Australia (2018); "The Great Exhibition", National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (2017).
